FONTLOG for Mckitrick
=====================

This file provides detailed information on the Mckitrick font software. It is
distributed with the fonts under the SIL Open Font License, Version 1.1.

Basic Font Information
----------------------

Mckitrick is a condensed display typeface drawn from a sheet of hand-cut
marker sketches. Each letter is built from separate flat-ended strokes; the
dots on i and j taper, wider at the top. One weight (Regular), 338 glyphs,
covering the Google Fonts Latin Core character set. OpenType features: kern,
mark, ccmp (soft-dotted i and j), and ss01/salt for an alternative f with a
long descender.

The glyphs are defined as centre-line strokes in Python (sources/glyphs.py)
and expanded to outlines, which are fitted with smooth cubic curves
(sources/fitcurves.py). Sidebearings and kerning are measured from the
outlines (sources/spacing.py). sources/build.py writes the UFO source, and
the fonts are compiled from it with gftools builder (sources/config.yaml).
The original pencil sketch is included in sources/sketch/.

The design and the original sketches are by Ian Lawton. The build tooling,
the extrapolated glyphs and the spacing were developed with the help of
Claude (Anthropic), an AI assistant, working from those sketches under Ian
Lawton's direction and review.
